I was really excited when I heard that Bon Jovi was going to make a documentary, in celebration of their 40 years as a band! Wow I’ve been a fan for that long, since I was 12. It wasn’t until I heard their ‘these days’ album in 1995 that I went crazy for them. That’s when I became obsessed, to the point where my crush was Jon Bon Jovi while others at school were going crazy for Prince William. I was all into Jon, his looks, the music… what can a rock girl say.
That was a time of grunge, R&B and heavy rock metal was still on the scene like Metallica, but Bon Jovi was always my No 1. I’ve owned all their albums and cassettes ‘Crossroads’ their best of – is still one of my favourites; to the videos about the band. My bedroom wall was covered in Bon Jovi posters.

I’ve even dragged my parents to almost every concert they played here in Sydney, Australia – 8 times. And at that age too I was with the Jon Bon Jovi Pen Pal Club (writing letters, before the days of the internet and Facebook). I became friends with other jovi fans as we call ourselves – with people from all over the world from England to Italy. I even meet up with fans from Australia too.
The last concert I saw the band was in Sydney #THINFS Tour 2018, as a fan I did notice something wasn’t right with Jon’s voice, it didn’t sound quite right. I had no idea that he had undergone vocal surgery or what challenges he was facing during covid. And then the breakup with Richie – everything had changed. Watching that documentary was great, so many behind the scenes like Jon being a businessman at the age of 29 and seeing all the band members tell their story. It has given closure to what they have been facing with in recent times.
The commitment, the drive, the not giving up, it’s so inspiring. Jon had a vision – and he became that vison and more. He took the band to new heights. They all are incredible musicians! They all give 110% energy when performing LIVE and of themselves just to entertain us each night. I still like how the band still refer to their fans as ‘kids’. Because that’s how you feel when you go to a Bon Jovi concert. You feel like a kid, like you step back in-time and you enjoy the music and the energy of the band playing!
I have to say I was crying in the last episode. It’s just so sad when you see someone’s commitment and their love of what they do, but they can’t go on like they used to. All because of something that is out of their control. i.e. Jon’s voice. He’s not giving up. It’s all the blood, sweat and tears that has made him and the band they are today. That’s why the legacy matters.
There are many fans like myself, that are in anticipation of the new album. I have pre-ordered my CD from the website, hoping to get a signed copy. Fingers Crossed! The countdown is on for June 7 2024 – Bon Jovi ‘Forever’.
This record is a return to Joy. From the writing, through the recording process, this is turn up the volume, feel good Bon Jovi
