Women & War

As ANZAC day is fast approaching, another year goes by that we pay respect to all our service men and women that have fought for our country, and some of who are in service fighting today.

This ANZAC day in majors creek, celebrates the Vietnam war where we pay respect for the lives of 521 that were killed and 3025 that were wounded.

A special attendance by Lt. Colleen who is now in her 80’s. She was one of the first four Australian Army nurses in Vietnam, serving with 8th Field Ambulance In Vung Tau. It was tents and some Nissen huts. No air-conditioning, no running water.

Australia sent almost 60, 000 defence personnel (including the 43 women who volunteered to serve their country as nursing sisters), to serve in Vietnam or its surrounding waters during the war years.

Here is the brochure and poster I have been honoured to design for the program for this years service at Major’s Creek.

As we see the nurses of another generation getting older, here we see a young generation of women who are serving in the military today.

ABMED Mosmondor, was a medic in the Australian Navy and served in Sumatra during the tsunami devastation.

Here are photos of my sister Melisssa on duty during the operation.

Thank you for your service
