This year in 2023 marks a huge milestone for an institution that is assisting in so many young and mature aged students lives, to achieve their dreams. Canberra Institute of Technology is turning 95!
CIT was founded in 1928 as the Canberra Technical College, officially opened by Prime Minister Stanley Bruce on 6 June 1928.
It changed in 1975 to the Canberra College of Technical and Further Education. During this time of development Vlad Mosmondor worked on the ‘Bruce college’ logo and branding for CIT (Canberra College of Technical and Further Education.) It later merged with Bruce and Woden TAFEs.
Below are photos of the new CIT and the final works and publications that Vlad had designed for the new Canberra technical college in Bruce. (which is now the CIT Bruce campus).
Vlad was involved with the DIA (Design Institute of Australia) during the time of planning and development of a new technical college – Vlad was assigned to research and travel around the globe to see what other technical colleges were out there, and implement the new ideas / insights into the new building.
Canberra then in the 70’s, there were no courses for students to attend. Such as arts, design or a trade. They had to travel interstate to Sydney for study. As the nations capital, we needed to have something here that was our own.

At that point in time, I was single and never had imagined that one of my daughters would benefit in studying at the same campus I was involved in designing and planning, all those years ago.
After several changes to the CIT name and composition, the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is now the peak public Vocational Education and Training (VET) provider in the ACT, shaping the futures of around 20,000 students every year.
It has been a Territory Authority since 4 January 1988 under the A.C.T. Institute of Technology and Further Education Act 1987 (now the Canberra Institute of Technology Act 1987).
